Privacy and the Records We Hold

Insurance Coverage Center (referred to below as the desk) keeps a written record for every review request. This page sets out exactly what enters that record, who receives it, how long it is held, and how to have it corrected, returned, or removed. It is written to be read once and kept, rather than skimmed and forgotten.

1. What a request file contains

• Contact details you supply: given name, family name, email address, and daytime phone number.
• The policy line you name, drawn from the eight lines in the catalogue.
• Any free-text notes you write in the notes field.
• Technical data the request creates: time received, the page the request came from, and the referral marker, if one is present in the address you arrived on.
• A generated reference number, which is how the file is identified in every later exchange.

Payment details are never collected here. A premium is paid to an insurance company, not to this desk.

2. What the desk does with the file

• Opens the file, reads what was sent, and prepares a written summary of the terms found.
• Lists the documents that remain outstanding so nothing is requested twice.
• Introduces you, where you ask for it, to a licensed producer or insurance company.
• Keeps the renewal date and the questions to raise at renewal, so the second year starts from a record.
• Answers a later enquiry from you that quotes the reference number.
• Meets legal obligations and investigates a submission we have reason to doubt.

A closed file stops being used for comparison. It is not repurposed for marketing.

3. Who else receives the file

• The licensed producer or insurance company you ask us to approach, and only to the extent needed to quote.
• Service providers that host the site, deliver mail, or maintain the session record, under their own confidentiality terms.
• A regulator, law enforcement body, or court where a lawful demand requires it.
• Our professional advisers, where a specific question requires it.

The desk does not sell a file to advertisers, and does not share one for unrelated marketing.

4. How the file is protected

Requests are submitted over an encrypted connection. Access to a file is limited to the reviewers who need it, and each access is attributable. No transmission or storage method is perfectly secure, and we will say so rather than imply otherwise. If a breach affects a file you gave us, we will tell you in writing and without delay.

5. The producers and carriers you are introduced to

An introduction passes your details to a third party, and that party keeps its own record under its own privacy policy. Ask which entity is handling your file, and ask for its privacy terms before you send anything further. The introduction is a transfer, and it is described as one rather than presented as a referral you never consented to.

6. Choices available to you

• Ask what is held about you, and receive a copy in writing.
• Have an inaccurate entry corrected.
• Ask for deletion, subject to the retention period below and to any record a regulator requires us to keep.
• Object to a use you have not agreed to, or withdraw contact permission.
• Ask that a file be closed immediately.

7. Cookies and local browser storage

A session cookie protects the request form against cross-site submission, and one browser storage entry records whether the on-page reminder has already been shown in this session. Both are limited to the session. The site places no advertising or cross-site tracking cookie, and no analytics script runs on these pages.

8. How long a file is kept

A file is retained for seven years from closure, which matches the period an insurance record may need to be produced. After that period it is deleted or anonymised, and at that point we can confirm only that a record existed, not what it said. A file closed early is deleted on the same schedule unless you ask us to remove it sooner.

9. Visitors under eighteen

This site is not intended for anyone under eighteen, and a request is not opened on that basis. If a file reaches us that belongs to a child, tell us and it will be removed.

10. Links to other sites

Where this site links out, the destination is operated by somebody else under a different privacy policy. We do not control those pages and are not responsible for what they collect. Read the policy on the destination before sending it anything.

11. State-specific rights

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia hold rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, together with the right to appeal a denied request. The desk does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so those rights are largely theoretical here; they are still honoured in full. 12. How this desk is paid

A referral fee may be paid by an insurance company after a policy is written. That fee does not alter your premium and does not affect which documents we ask for or how a summary is written. The full arrangement is set out in the advertising and referral disclosure.

13. Changes to this page

When this policy changes materially, the revised date at the top of the page changes with it. We do not ask you to accept the new version before you may use the site.
